Who knows two hundred eighty-four?

In the spirit of the song "Echad - mi yodeya", please post interesting and significant Jewish facts about the number 284.

I don't know if it's worth chasing after a lazy gematria for this one.

    +1. Nice! Although it actually depends on minhag; Sephardim and some chassidim make the haftarah 27 pesukim long, because they conclude with Jer. 4:1-2 instead of 3:4.

יח כָּל-הַלְוִיִּם בְּעִיר הַקֹּדֶשׁ, מָאתַיִם שְׁמֹנִים וְאַרְבָּעָה

Nehemiah 11:18 says there are 284 leviem in Jerusalem at that time.

Yaakov sent 220 goats to Eisav and kept 284 for himself, because these pair of numbers are a special class of numbers known as amicable numbers which the ancients knew gained the love of the one the gift was sent to, and through this Yaakov tried to gain Eisav’s affection.
