At myMy Reform synagogue this past evening, we held a Shabbat Service. However, it was not a conventional service, as after lighting the Shabbat candles and reciting Kiddush, thejoke service basically became a comedy. All subsequent prayers had a traditional melody(with familiar melodies, but thesilly or parodying lyrics mocked a presidential candidate for the upcoming election in the US. It even included a D'var Torah by Donald Trump (not actually by Trump)! After all of this, we sang Chag Purim and recited Mourner's Kaddish in on the normal mannerShabbat following Purim.
Throughout the whole service, my rabbi kept insisting that it is While a מצוהfew Shabbat traditions were kept, a commandment to make a farce out of the service on Purimmost were parodied or skipped. Is this true? Is there something in the Megillah or somewhere else that commands us to dohalachic precedence for this anywhere?
