The term "Ashkenaz" referred in the medieval period to Germany, and the Jews living there came to be known as Ashkenazi Jews. Many of these Jews eventually migrated to regions which would at times be known as Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, and elsewhere, and eventually spread around the world. Questions with this tag pertain to the laws and customs of Ashkenazi Jews through the ages.
