First of the Patriarchs, he left Ur Kasdim for the land of Canaan, at God's command. There he gained great renown, defeating the four mighty kings, and amassing much wealth. He made the first of the covenants between God and Israel, witnessed prophecy regarding the Egyptian exile, and showed resolute devotion to God by being prepared to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice.
