I understand that some rabbis offer a heter to shave using an electric razor based on this question the comentators suggest that a straight razor would fall in the same category as an electric razor. Traditional razors have not been permitted by most but this question seems to suggest that some forms of razors are. Does the Halacha permit the use of a straight razor for the shaving of facial hair?

Would using a straight razor to shave be permitted

Do you mean this to replace your previous question, or would you like both answered? – msh210 Jan 29 at 8:36
  • Please clarify the question. Shaving what? The beard? The pubic area? Any other area of the body? From my limited understanding only shaving the hair of the beard is strictly prohibited. See Leviticus 19:27 – Anonymous Jan 29 at 9:05
  • @Anonymous my apologies for not specifying I meant facial hair? – user372382 Jan 29 at 14:22
  • @msh210 I would preferably like both answered but more so I would like an answer from a halachic perspective is this permissible as my question states I understand there are some acceptable forms of shaving is a straight razor considered one of them? thank you – user372382 Jan 29 at 14:24
