Did the Tanna known as Rav author the Zohar? I heard that since he was a principal disciple of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the traditional author of the Zohar, the Rashbi dictated to Rav and he wrote what is now known as the Zohar.

related: question asking if R Moshe De Leon wrote it and a question asking if Rashbi wrote it. Note this question is just if Rav wrote, not who else may or may not have wrote it, though seemingly pretty much all the arguments against Rashbi having wrote it would apply here also. – Double AA Nov 24 '17 at 18:14

    Isn’t Rav a Talmid of R’ Yehudah HaNasi? – DonielF Nov 24 '17 at 20:43

principal disciple of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai - What's the source for that? Incorrect AFAIK, as @DonielF has indicated. – user4736 Nov 26 '17 at 23:29
