We all know Yoseff did dream analysis (baker and wine guy) but he had a special connection to Hashem.

Lets say you went for a dream analysis in modern times; would it be assur? Is it considered avodah zorah (idol worship), or some other prohibition?

  • For possibly relevant prohibitions, see Sefer Hamitsot (negative commandments #31). Regarding acting on such a "reading" see #33. – mevaqesh Apr 28 '17 at 21:49
  • probably more significant than some connection to Hashem, is the fact that Yossef was not obligated to follow the Torah; we are. – mevaqesh Apr 28 '17 at 22:10
  • Rabbis in the time of the Talmud went for dream analysis (e.g. 9th perek of Brachot). – Scimonster Apr 29 '17 at 18:49

Why do you think it's Avodah Zarah? – DonielF Apr 30 '17 at 0:32
  • Siddur Beis Yaakov (from Rabbi Yaakov M'Emden) has a whole section on pisron chalomos (interpretation of dreams). – Ploni Apr 30 '17 at 3:43
