Seeing that Rivka's father died at some point after Eliezer spoke to the family about the shidduch (Bereshis rabba 60:12), why was Rivka allowed to marry Yitzchak within Shiva or shloshim? Even if it MIGHT be halachically mutar for her to marry before matan torah or as a ben noach, why not wait until after aveilus? (We see there was aveilus by bnei noach with Mesushelach, see rashi bereshis 7:4)

  • Where do you see that she married yitzchak within shloshim? – Double AA Nov 25 '16 at 15:53
  • @DoubleAA I think that the OP is assuming that there was kfitzas haderech on the way home as well as on the way there because of her arriving exactly as Yitzchak was davening (as implied in the pasuk). Also, if there was a problem with the timing then the family would have raised it as an objection (besides asking for a year delay). Based on the way the family reacted, they must not have used the Shiva to delay the trip back. – sabbahillel Nov 25 '16 at 18:24
  • If we are applying Jewish laws to nonjews than we can simply say there was no aveilus considering he was a rasha. – user6591 Nov 25 '16 at 20:23
