In a civil election, does Judaism teach that one should vote for Jewish candidates over non-Jews? What if the voter supports the other candidate's positions on every other issue much more?

Why might you think that you should support a candidate whose positions you oppose just because the candidate happens to be Jewish?

  • @SethJ, I wouldn't, but that's just my unsupported guess at an answer.

There are plenty of wicked Jews who have no place in in positions of authority. Even YHWH has pointed out that pagans have demonstrated capability of performing their lifestyle and public duties better than supposed men of God.

I think Seth J's simple question (in a comment on the question) is an answer in itself. I just expounded on it with deeper reflection.

Welcome to Mi Yodeya, Jim, and thanks for your answer, which would be more valuable if you could edit in support for it from Judaism-based sources.

  • Thank you for the welcome. But I do not appreciate that my answer has been edited. There is no good justification for what I wrote to be censored. Let the author and community vote on it. That's the point of the voting system.

  • Wisdom is crying in the streets. Listen to her. If I speak wisely with simple answers, the discerning will recognize the truth. If they need Jewish sources, they can search the Scriptures to find out if what I speak is true.

Re "If they need Jewish sources, they can search the Scriptures", ye-es... but the purpose of this site is so people may ask questions and get answers based on Judaism. If you want to ask questions here, I urge you to do so; if you want to answer questions here, you should base them on Judaism-based sources whenever possible. Re "There is no good justification for what I wrote to be censored", yes, there is. I removed the part that didn't answer the question posed above. See also what the FAQ list says about "Other people can edit my posts?!".
