This question may sound strange but I was curious what the Halacha is on it.

I enjoy wrapping tefillin. I personally enjoy the ritual of the arm wrap a bit more but both are enjoyable in their own way.

This being said, I also try and be careful with my tefillin and not use them outside of their ritual use. This is mostly to maintain them from experiencing wear and tear and to not disrespect the scrolls within.

Question:

They sell the straps by themselves. Is there Halacha which would forbid me from purchasing the leather straps and using them alone? The idea would be to have a boxless set of straps that I could use separately from religious practice, say while reading or as a meditation in wrapping.

Is such an activity forbidden or would this be considered allowed in a certain context?
