We know that in the process of the creation of Man, his body was shaped from the earth but his soul (נשמה) was blown by G-d.

Animals, IIRC, appeared from the earth and from the water already with their souls (נפש).

Where did the animal souls come from - from G-d or from the Earth?

  • From the same place as the animal soul of the Jew – hazoriz Oct 28 '19 at 23:32
  • If we go with the literal meanings of Nefesh and Neshama (throat and breath) then it makes sense the Nefesh wouldn't be blown in but be formed from physical substance. – Double AA Oct 29 '19 at 12:56
  • Man also had its נפש when it was made, before the neshama was blown in. Why not ask about man? – robev Oct 29 '19 at 13:02
  • Aristotle said that man's intelligence separates him from animals. The animals probably got their souls when they were made or conceptualized in the womb, like humans babies today. – Turk Hill Oct 29 '19 at 15:30
  • @robev is right. Adam existed before he had the neshama. Additionally, Adam had a father and a mother like you and me. – Turk Hill Oct 29 '19 at 15:31
