Sep 21, 2017 at 12:05 comment added Levi @AvrohomYitzchok do you say (18:22) that when the men went to S'dom it ment two of them?
Jul 3, 2017 at 11:46 comment added Avrohom Yitzchok Rashi comments on “and Abraham returned to his place:” “The Judge left, the defender left, and the prosecutor is accusing. Therefore: “And the two angels came to Sodom,” to destroy (Gen. Rabbah 49:14). One to destroy Sodom and one to save Lot, and he [the latter] is the same one who came to heal Abraham, but the third one, who came to announce [Isaac’s birth] to Sarah, since he had performed his mission, he departed.” So “the Judge” = Hashem; “the defender” = Avrohom who pleaded for Sodom; “ the prosecutor” = the angel to destroy Sodom.
Jul 3, 2017 at 6:44 comment added Levi So looking at the roles being described by Rashi: the Judge, prosecutor and defender, it seems te defender goes to Lot right, the prosecutor seems to take care of S'dom and Amorah.. but what does the announcement of getting pregnant has to do with Judgement? And how can a malach be a judge, isn't HaShem Himself the Judge?
Jul 2, 2017 at 20:44 comment added Avrohom Yitzchok Normally Angels do not have a permanent name. Their name is dependent on their mission. I did find however here a reference that Gavriel was the angel who overthrew Sodom and that Refoel healed Avrohom after the circumcision.
Jul 2, 2017 at 19:24 comment added Levi Thank you, this seems quite plausible. Are there any commentaries which explain who these three malachim (their identity, names) are?
