Feb 28 '21 at 21:57 comment added Dennis I try to plan ahead and daven in the airport instead of on the plane. I will look for an out of the way place in the terminal away from foot traffic (I once used a cubicle in a business center).

Feb 26 '21 at 3:54 comment added MichoelR I have always asked the flight attendants if there's a place I can stand to pray so I won't be in the way. They have always been extremely helpful.

Feb 9 '15 at 14:40 comment added MTL I don't think we should drop talit, @Cnsersmoit. I think that's a big part of the question.
Feb 9 '15 at 14:24 comment added MTL @MonicaCellio True...but then the answers of "pray without them, put them on later" don't help that much....but then again, they didn't really answer the question in the first place, I think.
Feb 9 '15 at 14:23 comment added Scimonster @Shokhet And in all that, i forgot to make my point. My point was to drop talit.
Feb 9 '15 at 14:23 comment added MTL @Cnsersmoit Monica didn't want to drop tefillin -- she suggested dropping tefilla.
Feb 9 '15 at 5:35 comment added Scimonster @MonicaCellio I think tefillin is more central than talit, because it seems more likely to cause trouble than the shawl. My grandfather once put on tefillin on a plane, and someone thought he was trying to commit suicide...
Feb 9 '15 at 1:09 comment added Monica Cellio @Shokhet maybe dropping tefila would be better; tefila is the proximate cause, but tefilin and talit seem to cover that adequately. OTOH, the fact that it involves gentiles is pretty important to the question; this isn't just about logistics of donning these items in tight quarters.
Feb 9 '15 at 0:23 comment added MTL Hm...should we drop gentiles for how-to?
Jun 19 '12 at 0:00 comment added Baal Shemot Tovot R David Yosef in Halacha Berura has a great suggestion for not freaking out non-Jews with your tefillin: cover them with your talit! (He really lives in E Israel!)
Jan 22 '10 at 21:14 comment added Ken Isaac, it's not just a question of tefilin. Also yesterday a friend of mine was traveling back fom China and was questioned about the little white strings hanging out of his pants waist. After he explained all was good and he was allowed to board the plane. In this day and age these things should not arise. A little education by the TSA to all flight attendants about all religious practises will go a long way to avoid these situations (not just for jews) in the future.
