Anyway I don't know any source for this but the version I heard was that it was written somewhere in Beis Hamkdash and he wrote it down

The only time the kohen gadol used the sacred name was on Yom Kippur when it was forbidden to write in the first place. Additionally,only kohanim could have been present and close enough to hear the name inside the bais hamikdash. Thus such a claim does not seem likely.
