Mar 7, 2019 at 20:19 | comment | added | Al Berko | @Aaron That's not the point, don't take it to "extremities". The nature of animals is that they perceive the material world through the physical qualities. 3. Humans - they (again mostly, acc. to Maslow) perceive metaphysical qualities of the physical world. For example, food - they have recepees - how to arrange the food in a enjoyable order, something animals don't do. Or singing - arranging sounds in a enjoyable order. Or language - describing the physical world in metaphysical concepts.
Mar 7, 2019 at 20:08 | comment | added | Aaron | @AlBerko Not agreed. Animals play, they laugh, they protect, they show compassion. Dogs and other canids show loyalty, and have a form of ethics.
Mar 7, 2019 at 20:06 | comment | added | Al Berko | @Aaron No, just Pshat, I'm not that sophisticated. Let's go on. 2. Animals only care about the physical properties of the material world, for example food - they only care for it to be fresh and plenty or nest - it has to be secure and comfortable. Agreed?
Mar 7, 2019 at 19:56 | comment | added | Aaron | @AlBerko Tentatively. God speaks of rocks and skies being able to speak, and the earth being able to vomit. So the demarcations don't seem so clear cut to me
Mar 7, 2019 at 19:42 | comment | added | Al Berko | @Aaron Follow my logic - 1. we have a physical/material domain and a spiritual/metaphysical domain, for example a rock and a word. Agreed?
Mar 7, 2019 at 19:40 | comment | added | Aaron | @ezra My complaint is still with you because you state something as fact. "Being that every Jew..vs non Jew..." instead of "according to the Tanya....every jew vs every non jew."
Mar 7, 2019 at 19:38 | comment | added | Aaron | @AlBerko What's the simple proof?
Mar 7, 2019 at 18:56 | comment | added | Al Berko | @Aaron I have a simple proof for the difference you feel offensive that I'm pretty sure you'll accept. Would you like to hear?
Mar 7, 2019 at 15:31 | comment | added | ezra | @Aaron I understand not everyone is a fan, but I'm just saying your complaint really isn't with me.
Mar 7, 2019 at 6:07 | comment | added | Aaron | @ezra Being in the Tanya doesn't make it less offensive
Mar 7, 2019 at 3:55 | comment | added | ezra | @Aaron Perhaps you ought to go to source of the statement (the Tanya) and complain there.
Mar 7, 2019 at 1:28 | comment | added | Aaron | @Ezra I find your statement to be offensive and not verifiable in any meaningful way. It's equivalent to saying "Only Christians can discern right from wrong because we are filled with the holy spirit."
Mar 6, 2019 at 17:13 | comment | added | ezra | Being that a Jew has a neshama, nefesh, and ruach while a non Jew only has nefesh and ruach, I would think that a Jew might be higher on the spiritual plain. we do, after all, have a much higher responsibility.
