comment Who was Eliezer's Father?
@msh210 not per se, just mentioning another position on Eliezer's identity that would trickle up to his father's identity.

comment Who was Eliezer's Father?
IIRC one version has Nimrod giving his son to Avraham as a slave.

comment Can you drink a beer (such as Miller or Budweiser) at a bar?
The issue with social drinking is intermarriage, not inter-eating.

comment Can only the husband in a gentile married couple convert?
"an orthodox conversion would be accepted by all." In theory; but in the last few years this has been an issue, especially in Israel.

comment Does artificial meat grown in a petri dish have the halachic status of meat?
@IsaacMoses yeah, I think I was just feeling curmudgeonly earlier.

Not sure if this is a distinction w/o a difference, but the issur (rennet) encourages the dairy to mature into cheese, whereas here, the other ingredients encourage/support the stem cells themselves to grow. So the end product is directly generated from original stem cells. If anything, that should be "worse."

Firstly, I would assume you need to start with material from a shechted animal; bu even that is not 100% clear. Interesting. Sounds like a question for a posek, not SE.

Probably more territory (incorporation of Kabbalistic elements into halachah) for an academic paper than a SE question, though it's probably already been written

comment Non-Israeli pulpit rabbis who actively promote moving to Israel
Hah, reminds me of the story of R' Yehudah ha-Levi: over the course of his life, he became convinced that a person should yearn for EY. The Khazar king in the Kuzari called the Chacham out for not going, and eventually RYhL moved there himself from Spain. This, when it took weeks or months and EY was largely wasteland IIUC.

I think it's time to fork this into a new question: judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/11084/…

@avi: What's the cost of living in those communities? (not being sarcastic)

We need to clear up what "some level of mitzvah" means. Also, what "accepted consensus among the rishonim" means per se, and what the implications are for us. IMO a broad decision like moving to EY goes beyond mechanical halachah, i.e. involves a holistic look at the person and his/her life.

@avi: not if you've concluded they're not going to follow you.

comment First it says everyone had their own language; but then it says all spoke one before being split
CR Jonathan Sacks deals with the question of the languages at chiefrabbi.org/ReadArtical.aspx?id=1823 - not a classical approach.
