Relations with messianists @Aryeh, I don't have access to the Oxford, but here's Webster's: "Definition of IDIOT 1 usually offensive : a person affected with extreme mental retardation 2 : a foolish or stupid person" In my experience, this is the more common meaning. Is it not in yours? |

Relations with messianists @Fred Ha! :D But I think Ariel is right. "Is"ers and "was"ers disagree on whether he is/was b'chezkas and whether he will become Moshiach. I don't think anyone actually thinks he fulfills/fulfilled the Rambam's requirements for a vadai. |

Why are the Egyptians more concerned with the Exodus of the Jews than their own defeat? @SethJ Rashi is saying that "Ve'Alah" refers literally to the Egyptians, and euphemistically to the Jews. (This idea of referring to ones own calamity by attributing it to others is not uncommon.) He also first explains "Ve'Alah" literally, by saying "against our will." Afterward he brings a drash from Gemara as a second explanation. |
