Did Chazal know about China and the Chinese? and from which of Noach's sons do they hail? Sorry, that should have been dong guo i.e 東 not 北. It has been awhile ;o) obviously. |

Did Chazal know about China and the Chinese? and from which of Noach's sons do they hail? @CharlesKoppelman Also, zhong guo means "middle country". Double AA said in the comments that a son of Noah was sent to "the land of the east". I just realized that that probably isn't especially relevant, as Chinese wouldn't necessarily refer to themselves as "east country" (pinyin bei guo?) even if they were descended from Jewish people to the west. I still think you're right, but can't think of a rule-out, or even a substantive contradiction, to Gershon's answer. |

Bitcoin and Halakha @CharlesKoppelman Very clever! When, and if, there are forward contracts, i.e. futures, or options-on-futures, on bitcoin, I think the same halakhot would apply as to any other financial- or physical-based commodity (derivative) though. |

The Fanatic Badge @SethJ It is most definitely a question about Judaism! We ask questions here about running a computer script or batch job on Shabbos, or receiving faxes and similar. This is a charming question! I only wish I had thought to ask it myself. |

What is Zimri's sin? I understand if you don't want to accept these edits, given the user ID. It hurts to see Israel and Torah and Jews without capital letters tho. Also, the inquiry "what am I missing?" was duplicated. I am willing to explain these edit suggestions to the user in chat, I can be persuasive! |

Shakespeare in Classic Jewish Sources Thank you much for your prompt and helpful response. The snippet was, well, like all Google snippets (makes one feel even more curious)! Item 1 was a good starting point, item 2 was amazing. It expanded upon related issues that happened to be on my mind, pertaining to the Merchant of Venice, and a recent matter, coincidentally. Thank you again! |

Shakespeare in Classic Jewish Sources I wanted to read that essay, but the link is broken. I searched a little, but couldn't find a replacement. Could someone revise the URL please? |

Wearing a kippa at work This is an old answer to a pre-2.0 version of this site, and by editing, I inadvertently push up old content. But "Jewish" was not capitalized in the answer, and that is not appropriate usage for this website, no? |

How does an outsider know how to dress for a particular Orthodox community? @MonicaCellio Great! I know how challenging these things can be. Generally it is better to err on the side of formality. I once got raked over the coals for dressing inappropriately in the Second Life (virtual) synagogue. It was sort of silly, but I didn't think so at the time! |

How does an outsider know how to dress for a particular Orthodox community? This was a good idea. I decided to make my earlier comment into an answer. |

Proper age to take a child to Shul A kid is an animal, a young goat. I was confused when I read this question. I changed kid to child. |
