comment What bracha is made on Seaweed?
@DoubleAA I never once said Plantae. I said the opposite: I'm not convinced that the scientific calssification is what counts. I was raising questions, not answering them. Does chlorophyll count? Do roots count? Deciding that can help in distinguishing brachas for mushrooms or duckweed. Don't forget about mistletoe which grows on a tree, not the ground, but is Ha'adama because its source is ultimately a living plant in the ground.

comment Requirments for the Document of a Jewish divorce and its messenger
@Shalom Thanks. You should add that to your answer. I looked up the reference, seems pretty clear - why is that not the practice? Just that it's not needed or is it questionable in some way?

comment Requirments for the Document of a Jewish divorce and its messenger
Can someone appoint a shliach to have the get written? i.e. not just deliver the paper, but the whole process. i.e. can he say: "I make you a shliach to divorce my wife"? And the shliach goes to the beis din to have it written, then delivered.

comment Animal testing of cosmetics and other products
@SAH And those products are not tested. I don't know why you're still arguing this. Here's some more links for you: safecosmetics.org/article.php?id=280#government From the FDA itself: fda.gov/cosmetics/guidanceregulation/lawsregulations/… There is a whole movement to stop testing on animals. And simultaneously a movement to require more testing since there are a ton of unsafe, and untested personal care products on the market. Reconciling those two desires seems impossible to me.

comment Can a Jew who is keeping the Shabbat rules ask another Jew who is not keeping shabbat to turn on/off the lights?
@SAH My opinion is it's worse to ask them. By asking you are sinning and you are causing them to sin. If you do it yourself only you sin. On top of that it's much harder to do teshuvah when you cause someone else to sin.

comment What can be done with my annoying smoke detector on Shabbos?
@NewAlexandria Sweating has nothing to do with work. Nothing. Whoever told you that was completely wrong. You can ask that as a question if you like, but be prepared for answers like "Where in the world did you hear that?", and "Why do you think sweating has anything to do with work?". Work has to do with certain creative actions. It's not the amount of work that matter, it's the creation that matters.

@NewAlexandria ??? From where did you get this idea? Sweating has nothing to do with whether or not something is work. Did you actually read this somewhere, or did you come up with it on your own?

comment May I buy and use cheap fakes instead of paying full price for brand-name clothes?
@SethJ See my link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veblen_good the value is not independent. You are helping the creator - by making copies the old design is no longer desirable, which spurs more sales. If not for that people would not need to constantly buy a new fashion item. There is a fine line of course, overdo it and the creator can't sell anything at all.
