How does this math work out? @ShmuelBrin, and the bigger the city, the further from 1:4 the ratio gets. This is a good question. |

How does this math work out? Similarly with Soncino’s version: migrash is π × 1000²; sados are 4000² − π × 1000²; ratio is π ÷ (16 − π) ≅ 1:4. With a city larger than zero, the ratio will be greater. |

How does this math work out? Note that the ratio of migrash: sados is at its minimum with a 0-radius city (see my attempt at working out the math at gist.github.com/jcsalomon/5573753). Migrash is 2000²; sados are 4000²−2000²=12,000,000; ratio is 4,000,000:12,000,000 = 1:3. A ratio of 1:4 is impossible. |

How does this math work out? Could you please update the diagram to indicate explicitly what the various lengths are? |

Bar Mitzvah candle-lighting? Note: I rather suspect this is a particularly non-Orthodox practice, but this should still be within this site’s scope. |

One Challah or Two? This was discussed, with regard to matzos backed in a large sheet, on (IIRC) Hirhurim. Will search. |

Kiddush cup: stemmed or not? There is also the “Rizhiner _becher_”, with leaf-shaped attachments to the stem so it can be held in the kabbalistically-preferred manner; see this picture. |

Is Halal Meat Kosher? @DoubleAA, IIRC, camel is considered halal, so you could not “know it’s a kosher species at least”. |

What’s Doctor Who doing in the Talmud? @Yirmeyahu, this question was closed earlier than the others, and for a different reason. have no grounds for complaint or dispute, but I am disappointed; if I think of a suitable answer I'll ask for this to be reopened next Purim. |

“Vashti the queen” vs. “Queen Vashti” Mechon Mamre’s punctuation is a reflection of the trop; their comma is therefore a weaker disjunction than it usually is in English. |

What are the consequences of Vashti’s dual nature? There’s a Purim Torah I remember hearing that dealt with this question. I don’t recall the details, but it involved Haman having a detachable nose. |

What are the consequences of Vashti’s dual nature? I know this is late; maybe I’ll get an answer next year. |
