Why is the word “tzvi” ambiguous? Is this also true of nesher (eagle / vulture)? |

Obliterating the names and memories of evil people I remember reading that the names of evil people shouldn't be mentioned. I thought that was the reason for ישו. |

Obliterating the names and memories of evil people What about nicknames given to evil people to avoid using their names? |

Obliterating the names and memories of evil people No, the name is ישוע. The name ישו is an abbreviation of ימח שמו וזכרו, i.e., may his name and memory be erased. Though I think that nobody really knows what his name sounded like in Hebrew / Aramaic, since the New Testament was written in Greek, and the first Jewish sources about him were written hundreds of years later. |

Etymology/connection between Ari, Aryeh, Yehudah, Leib, and Leibel Thanks for asking. The Russian adaptation is "Lev", which also means "Lion", so I have a personal interest :) |

Etymology of the surname “Katz” Katz also means "cat" in German and Yiddish. There are several recorded cases where Kohanim surnamed "Katz" made sure that Jews whose surname was derived from "cat" would have the last name Katzman rather than Katz. |

Were slave-related commandments observed in America? Really? What about the law about fugitive slaves? Does that apply only to Eved Knaani? |

Were slave-related commandments observed in America? @Isaac Moses, why would they? Christians generally don't observe Torah law. |
