A qualified chemist who somehow drifted into web development. I've learned (to a greater or lesser degree of accuracy) PHP and JavaScript, and would like to learn something completely different for the sake of it. I'm a weirdo who actually enjoys reading (and sometimes writing) technical documentation.

@DavF. When you're adding a comment, click the word help beside the textbox for some inline help on formatting and link markup.

comment Can you say Bircat Hagomel after certain “dangerous sports”
I'd be interested to see the stats on whether bunjee jumping is actually more dangerous than US football or merely seems that way.

comment “Hello” and “sincerely” when writting letters
When I wrote a letter to the Taoiseach (Prime Minister (lit., Chieftain)), I opened it, A Taoisigh, a chara (Taoiseach, friend) and closed it Is mise, le meas (I am, with respect), even though the body of the letter was in English. It's fairly normal in many many cultures for set phrases from one language to seep into another.

revised Is it permissible to write the English/secular date?
"to only write the Hebrew date on a tombstone". I intially read this as meaning that Hebrew dates were used nowhere else.

comment Are Animal Crackers depicting non-kosher animals non-kosher?
On a separate issue, @Shalom, I would contend that the stuff Hershey's produce isn't actually chocolate as I'd understand the word. It seems to be a brown waxy substance, the flavour of which almost, but not quite, entirely unlike chocolate.

revised Is one allowed to smoke Marijuana?
Tidied grammar. Quote was separated by verse: I changed it into single block. (Could someone review the Hebrew? It has some strange } symbols in it which I suspect should not be there. Thanks.) Separated out sections (because I split some long prargraphs into shorter ones).

revised Is one allowed to have a Thanksgiving Meal?
Improved link text and added full referencing, so you know what you're clicking on. Small grammar tweaks. And I gritted my teeth and put the full stop inside the quotation marks.

comment How are pre-creation >4000 BCE human civilization and pre-flood >2300 BCE civilizations that continued reconciled with Judaism?
I'm not sure that "don't worry about it" counts as an answer.

comment Why are Shabbat loopholes a good thing?
Christian perspective, since that seems to be where you're coming from: "In a sense, the elaborate nature of the law-evading construct becomes an expression of reverence for the very law it evades."
