I was brought up Jehovah’s Witness. (That’s a fairly little-known non-Trinitarian branch of Christianity.) As such, I was taught about Christianity’s roots in Judaism, and therefore also taught about Judaism, though perhaps not very accurately.

I am now an atheist, but continue to be curious about religion and how it works and is manifest in people’s lives.

comment What percentage of Chabad still believes the Rebbe is the Messiah?
On the other hand, @DoubleAA, I have trouble believing anyone could believe most of what's written on this site.

-1 for paranoid conspiracy theories. The idea that everyone who disagrees with you is merely lying to themselves ("You can't handle the truth!") may be comforting to you, but it has no place on this sort of site.

comment What's up with this strange new hechsher?
Diet Coke is bad enough to start with. I don't imagine that adding bacon would actually improve matters in any way whatsoever.

I think you're a little confused about the Catholic and Orthodox doctrine of prayer to the saints.

@Shmuel. That picture may or may not be "mind-blowing", but it's certainly cute.

On your last paragraph: I've heard the same, but it would be better with a citation. Your second-last paragraph also would be better with some citations. You're summarising reported rulings, without referencing the actual rulings.

comment How, if at all, can “frum” Jewish men justify their consorting with prostitutes?
Exactly which "sins" are prevalent will vary from one community to another, so this is not a complete answer. However, the question does become more sociological than theological at this point, inasmuch as it is possible to separate the two.

comment star of david and the cross
@DoubleAA. I would interpret such a gift to mean that the giver was either self-absorbed to the point of being oblivious, or was profoundly arrogant. Neither interpretation would engender pleasant feelings.
