A qualified chemist who somehow drifted into web development. I've learned (to a greater or lesser degree of accuracy) PHP and JavaScript, and would like to learn something completely different for the sake of it. I'm a weirdo who actually enjoys reading (and sometimes writing) technical documentation.

comment Why wasn't the Torah given to klal Yisroel as a DVD?
A Chief Rabbi (or, indeed, any educated person) in the UK would surely be familiar with the aphorism that the pictures are better on the radio.

comment Recommendation for a digital Torah codex for software developers
Further tip: Clarifications should be edited into the question itself, rather than buried in comments where no one will see them. You can then comment (using @-notifications as suggested) to let the person who called for the clarification know that their suggestion has been acted on. (Incidentally, ASCII Hebrew is unlikely, though I suppose it could be possible if you're willing to accept transliterated Hebrew.)

comment Is there still a mesora on how to write the Torah in Greek?
@Matt. The LXX is still used in the Eastern Church. The Vulgate still has some influence in the West, but most Western Christians prefer to go back to the original languages.

comment Family Heirloom Sefer
I think the big family Bible is mainly a Catholic tradition. It would often have a handwritten family tree at the beginning.

comment Is it okay to enjoy Christmas lights?
@Shmuel. Calling Martin Luther a "famous priest" is a very impressive bit of understatement.

comment Is it okay to enjoy Christmas lights?
@avi. I've certainly heard of some Christians avoiding Christmas (I was brought up in such a tradition; see also Oliver Cromwell, who banned the celebration in England during his time as Protector), but I've never heard of Catholics doing so. They're generally fairly relaxed about "pagan practices". (I'm Irish, and shall therefore mention that Cromwell was a genocidal bastard, though this is not particularly germane to his views on Christmas.)

revised Christmas and Ex-mas
This started as a simple correction of "chi" to "chi rho" as the symbol. It sort of got out of hand and perhaps is a bit too much.

I'm not sure that keeping things in your socks necessarily leads to blisters. Is that not the standard place to keep a dirk?

It's not an acronym: just an initial. And however people use it now, it began as a simple scribal abbreviation.

revised Medical treatment for pregnant woman that jeopardises pregnancy
Corrected spelling in title. Moved disclaimer to end (this improves the relevancy of the excerpt in the question preview).

revised Source that Avraham's tent was open on all sides?
Tidied formatting and grammar. I did very slighly copyedit the quoted source too (removed an inaccurate space in /13 th/ and corrected the spelling of /guest/).
