comment Pronunciation of Tere ta’ame
@msh210, the only thing like that in parshat shalach (that I am aware of) is a mercha kfula, and that is a single trup (as far as I am aware in the Ashkenazi and Syrian traditions) with a sound distinct to that of two merchas.

I think its a mercha kfula (by a different name, tre meaning 2)

comment What if there's a Minyan of Aveilim?
Can't a similar question be asked about a minyan of Kohanim on Sabbat? Who gets aliyah number 3?

comment Why does a Torah have 2 poles and a Megillah have 1?
As a more practical manner the m'gila is unrolled in its entirety when it is read. This is easier with one or no poles.

It's a blessing in that you won't be attacked, not in other areas.

Good points. Does part 2 of the question make any sense, or not really?

Very interesting. Are there any other possibilities other than paranoia?

I am I slightly confused. If no-one is pursuing them, them they are not really being pursued, and I would have assumed that in any case they would not be looked after because of that verse. In addition, since according to the Sifra this is the punishment for not believing in God at all, they would not be comforted by that pasuk in any case.
