comment Specific punishments for specific sins
@MonicaCellio in a few places, Gemara comments that number in a mishna is to exclude something. Kiddushin in 1:1 says 3 ways to marry, Gemara comments on excluding chuppah as means of kiddushin. Bava Kamma 1:1 has 4 types of damage, Gemara asks what is excluded. So ostensibly something specific is excluded by "for three sins".

comment When may one do a Hechi Kedushah?
@DoubleAA, Maybe those are things they should have done. I am merely eporting what they actually did.

comment Who knows science?
@Yez I don't know. Logically, one could ask similarly (and less politically) on Literature winners, such as SY Agnon, Toni Morrison et al. He mentioned Watson or Crick specifically, who won for biology.

comment Hatzi Kaddish melody using Haftarah nusach
@DoubleAA it applies there too, and perhaps more commonly for blessing before haftara, but speaker definitely said it in regard to kaddishes, as the OP asked.

Why do you assume saying yishtabach with the shatz is better than saying it earlier so that you are at shmona esrei with him?

comment Is there an obligation for men and women to sit separately at a simcha?
Rabbi Mordechai Willig, who married more than 30 years ago, has said in shiurim that there was dancing by both men and women at his wedding with no mechitza. He makes it sound quite common. @hazoriz, don't engage in revisionist history.

comment What are some instances in which ashkenazim do NOT follow Rama?
@NoachmiFrankfurt that too would be unlike the Rema, but I have never been to a shul where the blessing on tefillin is said aloud like birkot hashachar any day of the year. Obviously if those wearing tefillin say the blessing quietly I won't hear them, but I was told one does not make the Bracha nowadays. I myself don't wear tefillin on chol hamoed.

comment Why can't we distribute mitzvah obligations around the community?
There is a concept of a 'mitzvah sh'b'gufo' which cannot be done by a shaliach. I would think that would be the beginnings of an answer. For someone else to do something and have others be yotzei, one needs shlichut.

comment How does Judaism regard homeschooling?
I believe different places say each. "B'makom" is often understood to mean the subject matter (do I learn Talmud or halacha?) wheras m'makom is understood as teacher or institution (Do I study at Lakewood or the Mir? Rabbi Schwartz' shiur or Rabbi Cohen's?).

@user6591, you are free to think so. I wrote this answer in 2012, before Freundel's sins were made public. Should I delete it now? Is the logic less compelling because of the source?
