comment Can God destroy Himself?
@Yehoshua because a basic fundamental aspect of God, is that he exists. Thus, if it were possible that God were to be destroyed, therefore resulting in God's non-existence - then this is not "God that must exist". The same goes for His singularity - creating another such as Himself would nullify the basic tenet of "only one". With these aspects being fundamental, these questions then become the same as the four cornered triangle - we are trying to force him to change the basic concept. A different rose by the same name...

comment Please explain the “apparent omission” of not including the women as the ones going into Cana'an after the 40-year wandering in the desert
Except, as the story of Tzlofchad's daughters shows, women DO own land, sometimes.

@IsaacMoses that pretty much fits the definition for sexism directly: treating people arbitrarily differently based on their gender (excluding biological issues).

@ruakh well... That doesn't always work out too great either. E.g. see this slightly inappropriate video: youtube.com/watch?v=XMZIAlKFRY4 ...

comment Are there any sources that prohibit childhood vaccinations?
@JamesJenkins absolute proof is not at all necessary. What is necessary is framing the discussion - which is exactly what Isaac is doing here. That is, our basic assumption should be that anyone who wants to claim "religious exemption" based on Jewish restrictions should automatically be required to back his claim - i.e. show some proof that such a Jewish restriction exists. (Which is exactly what he asked :-)). This instead of automatically assuming that such a restriction exists.

comment Do multiple hechsherim (kosher symbols) on a product make its kashrut less reliable?
Sadly, it is not always just about trust between the different Kashrut orgs, or even a question of different stringencies - there are, sad to say, some Kashrut agencies that insist on their own certification for the sole purpose of money. It is a business, after all. (Obviously not all kashruyot, but there are some, and apologies if anyone is offended by this - but it is true).

comment Start of the Upsherin ceremony
@haircut yes, comments to that effect have been made, and I agreed that it has long been a Chassidish minhag - but that is not exactly "well beyond Breslov" (which sounds like it was always a mainstream minhag, which is only recently).

comment Explaining to children why we don't celebrate Halloween
Nice! Also contrast how Halloween is about death, and Purim is about living (notwithstanding Haman and his sons, but the celebration is basically "we weren't killed")...

Why would a "shidduch date" be special, as opposed to a "regular" date?

The "nonsense" you mention towards the end is actually a better translation than "impossible", even though that is strictly what he wrote he meant it in terms of nonsensical. As in, "it is impossible to conceptualize such a concept", not that "it cannot be done".

ah, right - well, it is spread out around the comments here. I don't really remember what was missing, but I will try to collate it all and summarize. Before Purim....

Seriously? Zuckerberg is your best example of authority on programming? Facebook's success had nothing to do with the quality (or lack thereof) of his code.

If you really believe that who gets elected will have any effect (positive or negative) on you directly, you probably don't need to say any brachot, since you are obviously a shoteh :-)

comment In Eretz Yisroel Kosher In Chutz Laretz Posul
I second @SimchasTorah's comment, why do you say it is automatically granted? Just because it is very common in certain neighborhoods, does not mean permission is granted. (This probably has more to do with Israeli chutzpa than any kind of implicit Israel permission... :-) )

@TRiG you... are absolutely correct. I did make that assumption, not realizing I was assuming it. Reasonable assumption, but still, you are correct.

Fair enough, I was not rebuking you for mentioning it :). As for whether throwing candy is proper or not, there are several halachic reasons (and non-halachic), but that's really it's own question, isnt it...

@SethJ Hehe, okay, yeah, thats the obvious best one - bal tashchit and all that - but I thought it obvious that I meant besides that.
