Is diversity a Jewish value? yes, really I meant hashkafa, but it almost works both ways. |

Sign Language During Davening I believe it also comes up in Nedarim, in the context of responding to another's neder with something like a nod or thumbs up, which then obligates the nodder with the same neder (heh heh) |

Shiv'a Ve'esrim - mi yodeya? @WAF: actually, current sidereal periods are generally measured with respect to distant quasars, since stars tend to have much larger angular proper motions, and thus do not make good reference points. |

Why masechet “Beitza”? what about masechet Taharot? that could be anything! I was thinking there must be some historical reason for the shift, since many Rishonim definitely called it Y"T. |

Arba'a Ve'esrim - mi yodeya? oh, and I forgot about Zman. I will have to wait until 120 to get permutations on Sat night Y"T=5! |

Computer working on Shabbos re: monitor and sound, is this only if you are in the same place as the computer? what if it is at work? why should it be any different than leaving the lights on at your house when you go away? |

Fast days and time zones would R' Elyashiv and R' Kanievsky hold the same going eastward? i.e. can you shorten the fast by e.g. 7 hours? or is it a safek l'chumra kind of thing? Also, would R' Scheinberg hold that flying from japan eastward, leaving on 10 teves, and crossing the dateline at sunset, would have to fast 48 hours? |

shiduch date haircut during sefira One interesting difference b/t a haircut and shaving is that it is not obvious when one last got a haircut, whereas it is clear that many people shave during sefirah, usually for business purposes. the girl would know for sure if you shaved, but may not notice a haircut. |

Waking up in the middle of the night how should one do this washing? with a kli, or just under the sink? |

Is Yom HaAtzma'ut a Chag? Mo'ed is also appropriate, since historically, the Jews have not been as strict keeping the moadim, and thus Rabbis need to enforce their observance even more. (avot 3:15) |

Music on Rosh Chodesh Iyar? I have never heard of people that can pick and choose and make up later (e.g., I got tix to a ball game next week. I will go, and then keep an extra day on the 34th) |

Pictures of Chometz on Pesach And what about smelling chometz? there seems to be much more of a problem with deriving benefit in that case. |

How do you deal with huge numbers of calls from tzedaka organizations? In our city, where shluchim are very common, I have seen signs on a number of people's doors to the effect of: "All tzeddakas will be given $5. Individuals will be given $10" or some variant. I don't know if it will help the double-dippers, but does seem to help avoid haggling over amount, something I find extremely distasteful. |

Should one drink from the leader's cup after kiddush? I don't think I have ever seen the wine given to the lady of the house. I still don't see why this is "the best way to perform the mitzvah", and it seems to smack of somehow blessing the wine itself, something done in other religions that we generally try to distance ourselves from. which reminds me of another question re: chukat goyim. |
