The standard text I believe is: "Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord." Or do you think that is the same thing?

Depending on your opinion of tzeis hakochavim, there could be as much as an hour when it is shabbos in the whole world.

Dec 2	comment	Why doesn't Al Hanisim Mention the Miracle of the Oil? one of my favorite answers in Ner l'meah, about why 8 days, when the miracle was really only 7 days: Whenever we light oil and it burns, it is a natural "everyday" miracle, which sometimes requires supernatural miracles to focus our attention on the mundane ones.

One explanation (although I am personal skeptical) is that under the various persecutions in Syria in the past century or so, the community focused on getting the Cohanim safely out. Maybe some Leviim impersonated Cohanim in order to be safe too.
