comment Hagala for a new pot
btw, I would like to use this opportunity to say Sultam pots are fantastic! We have a whole set and they are still in great shape after 7 years.

in view of a number of similar active questions, it may be worth reminding everyone of the message in red print at the top of this page. For questions like this, one should always consult their own Rav.

comment May a Katan (minor) perform Melachah (“work”) on Shabbath?
I've also heard it is violating the positive mitzvah of chinuch. I have seen cases where a parent will not ask their own child to do something, but have a different adult ask them. (although it sounds like this is also a problem!)

comment 12 hours to the day, 12 hours to the night
definitely related to the lunar cycles: 12 months gives 12 constellations in the annular cycle, which also cross the sky every night. Except the 12 constellations take 24 hours to go around, so I'm off by a factor of 2 somewhere... eh, astrology and astrophysics are both order-of-magnitude estimates.

comment Eclipse of the moon, bad sign for the Jews
Interesting answer, but I am personally not much convinced by the odd combination of mazal and science. To a certain extent, I think this is at the root of the recent controversies with R. Slifkin and the authority of Chazal.

corrolary: is a gioret from before 3yrs old (e.g. adopted) still considered a gioret (vs betulah) for purposes of ketubah?

This is a good explanation of the exorbitant prices at the kosher stand at Camden Yards. location, location, location!

but market value is defined by what people will pay for it, so it is a bit of a catch-22

comment Can a Christian “Grace” invalidate food?
Did they really say that? I have never heard of such a grace. The standard text I believe is: "Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord." Or do you think that is the same thing?

But can't somebody make an animal prohibited as a korban, even if it doesn't belong to him? What about if he uses it for bestiality?

comment Cutting chala with a knife
I thought we removed the knife so we don't stab ourselves out of grief while bentching and mentioning Yerushalayim, and then getting overwhelmed by sorrow over its loss.
