All people in world are Jews? @Seth, interesting comment, thanks. Also interesting is that all of Sarah's children are Jewish but not all of Avraham's. With Yitzchak and Rivka it was half for both. And for Yaakov and his wives it was all for both. I'm guessing now that maternal descent began with Matan Torah and until then it was paternal descent as with the sons of Yaakov. B"n I will try to look more into this and update my answer. Thanks again for your comment. |

Why don't we say Avinu Malcanu on Tisha B' Av? I once heard a nice vort: The month of Elul is the month of Avinu-Malkeinu. The month of Av is just plain Avinu (a much closer relationship) ... |

the aggadic concept of a finite number of words to speak Like @avi was hinting the meaning of this musar is probably: speak every word as if you had only a finite number of words to speak in your lifetime. |

How does “eilu v'eilu” work out with an absolute truth? The concept of "Eilu va'Eilu" is well sourced. To improve your question could you base your impression of absolutes on some source? |

Were slave-related commandments observed in America? We know that the laws of an Eved Ivri would not apply to African slaves in America. I doubt any slaves went through a half conversion to become an Eved Knani. What's left is a plain slave to whom, IINM, apply only the laws of the state (Dina D'Malchuta). IMHO the question needs to be a bit more focused. |

Davening Maariv at Shekiya / or after Plag HaMincha - repeating Kriyas Shema The title of this question is misleading. Shouldn't it be more like "Kriyas Shema before Tzais HaKochavim"?. |
