Are You Obligated to Vote a Question You Answer? @jake, I explicitly did not claim that downvotes or non-votes are negative. I'm actively ignoring the haters, until I have something civil & useful to write. Perhaps other motives for casting votes include spite, punishment, & discouragement. And why is the only substantive, relevant answer not getting positive attention? |

Why should a choshed bichsherim bless the k'sherim? @YDK R' El'azar could have applied MiG'zera Shavah (similar verses that clarify each other) or MiBinyan Av MiShney K'tuvim (a general principle derived from two verses). |

Are You Obligated to Vote a Question You Answer? @jake upvote != approval != respect. Rather, upvote == useful ... useful to demonstrate approval, encouragement, gratitude, respect, thanks, entertainment, and to give points. I asked a practical Halakha question about Derekh Eretz and Hakarat HaTov, and received 2 ad hominem comments (still posted), 2 disrespectful & irrelevant answers (upvoted), and 4 votes to close. Moving the meta elements to the meta site accelerated the negativity. It's all rather discouraging and time-consuming. |

Are You Obligated to Vote a Question You Answer? +1 Many Gedolim demonstrate respect publicly to all people, sometimes risking their own reputation, who turn simple questions into profound lessons. What do they know that we're missing here? Kal v'Chomer we should show private respect (e.g. an upvote) to those who provide us an opportunity to share our knowledge and receive "reputation" as a reward. |
