Is hamsa allowed? And yet they are extremely common among Jews. In Israel various souvenirs depicting a hamsa often overlayed with Jewish prayers or blessings are sold practically on every corner. If owning a hamsa is forbidden, one would expect some form of protest from the haredi community. |

Difference between jewish and zionist? @jake Once again I beg to differ. Who the Jews are as a group is very relevant, especially to the question about the terms "Jewish" and "Zionist". Jews being a nation is basis of Jewish nationalism, aka Zionism. |

Difference between jewish and zionist? @jake, and I do cite the strict halachic definition. My point is that Jews collectively are not only a religious group, but also an ethnic one. If one converts to Judaism, one becomes a member of the Jewish people, i. e. the Jewish nation. And even if a Jew never goes to shul and doesn't keep kosher, he is still a Jew. |

Check that did not clear @msh210 It is a decent thing to do, because if the recipient tries to deposit the check two months later, and there is no longer enough money in the account, the recipient will not get his money, and he might also be charged a fee by his bank for trying to deposit a bad check. The recipient stands to lose more from this. |

How can I make a long summer shabbat a delight? @Isaac Moses: what's wrong with the word "maise"? That is exactly what this is. :) |

Check that did not clear @Gershon Gold: A check is different from cash. When you write a check, presumably you have enough money in your account to cover it. If it is not cashed within reasonable time, your balance may run low or you may close the account. So either you have to keep track of all your outstanding checks, which is unrealistic, or your check may bounce if the recipient tries to cash it. So if there is a reason the recipient does not cash your check, you want to know about it. |

connection of obligation to keep mitzvos and sexual maturity I would think that keeping mitzvos has more to do with maturity in general... |
