@DoubleAA I agree, but this information is from lectures I've heard, so I can't point to a specific source. Sorry.

comment Unusual number of males among the 70 who went to Egypt
@DoubleAA the question was about disproportionate number of babies, not the reasons to do so. What I wrote in answer is a correct thing with good citation. What I wrote in comment is a speculation, I don't feel comfortable adding it as part of an answer.

They wanted to "produce" am yisroel, I think boys are more suitable for this mission. As we see that Yaakov has 12 boys and just one girl. And even that single girl was born as a girl because Lea didn't wanted to embarrass her sister.

@DoubleAA the intention was not purely translating Aramaic, I've asked it for deeper understanding of Talmud texts.

comment How much is Classical Hebrew (in which the Hebrew Bible is written) is different from the modern Hebrew?
@SethJ if we or even commentators do not know what we learn from a specific word in Torah, it still does not means that the word is "in fact" redundant.

@Warlus the Cat, if you think this doesn't answer the question, you might want to remove "accepted" mark from this answer, in order to avoid confusion of occasional googlers

comment matzah = mezonos or hamotzi
@Menachem if you קובע סעודה (set up a meal) on a mezonos you have to wash on it. On Passover usually people eat matzah as a main part of the meal.
