comment Why did God reveal himself only before there were recording devices?
Plus history would be vastly different without matan torah.

comment Is it OK to say Tehillim whenever the inspiration strikes?
@DoubleAA I would say it's just a turn of phrase trying to emphasize the power and holiness of saying Tehillim, not C'V that it's a substitute for the mitzvah of learning Torah.

@C.BenYosef I'm wondering if it might violate using God's name unnecessarily or something of that nature, it's hard to explain :/

comment Do angels have jealousy?
I think it was more an intellectual argument, "humans are pretty low on the holiness scale and have all these weird issues that could cause them to violate the Torah, why give them the time of day?"

comment What is the source of hatred perceived by Jews in different parts of the world?
@JimThio your premise is wrong, hatred of Jews is quite different than any other kind of hatred ever, see the series of articles that sethj linked judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/18553/…

comment Why is misusing God's name so bad?
@DoubleAA yeah, without the interstitial words they put in to clarify the text, similar to the way the translation is written in their Gemaras.

comment What is special about praying Shacharis and Mariv (as opposed to Mincha)?
Your right, as I replied to DoubleAA above, my question is more "why are only Shacharis and Mariv under "sheodom oychel peiroisehem..." but not Mincha". Should I edit the details to take out the comparative parts? BTW I like your insights here :)

comment What is special about praying Shacharis and Mariv (as opposed to Mincha)?
@DoubleAA yeah I did forget about those things and was lumping together the fact that reciting korbanos in lieu of actual sacrifices and the amidah repetition are only done by Shacharis and Mincha, which seems to make them more "important" relative to Mariv, irrespective of whether davening is a Torah obligation or not. The question of why "oychel peiroisehem..." still stands (for me), although Dan has a great point.

@msh210 and seth, you're right re sourcing stuff, I'll try to do better in the future. Also about "dejargoning", it just appeared to me from my browsing that doing it was a matter of taste and didn't appear to be consistent. Any tips on when and how much would be appreciated.

@msh210, I'm not sure what you mean by the former, it's part of a Gemara in Shabbos, that we say every morning. As for the latter, I was going with "common knowledge" (that Chazal tell us from "Vayashkaim Avraham" and Vayeitzei Yitzchok").

comment What kavanos should one have when sharpening a challa knife Erev Shabbos?
Yeah, this is kind of what I was expecting heh. Sometimes you feel like there should be an additional way to make a mitzvah more l'shem shomaim but most likely you should just have the kavanos of bein adam l'chaveiro in mind. I also really appreciate this answer, being a Bobover chosid and all. ollies out
