comment Can you say Bircat Hagomel after certain “dangerous sports”
Often one who flies on an airplane is doing it voluntarily and still says Hagomel. So I am not sure if it matters if it is voluntary or not.

comment CYLOR and Mesorah
Asei Lcha Rav. My Rabbi told me that when he lived out of town and was uncomfortable with the Rabbis there he called his rabbis or sent his questions via FedEx.

comment bar mitzvah and wedding invitations
@DoubleAA: Yes it does. One may throw it in the garbage so long it is wrapped, thus there is no Lifnei Evair for the sender.

comment Mom and Dad begin Shabbat at different times. Whom should the son follow?
If Shabbat will be ruined then the father should stay home and pray later.

comment What halachic issues are involved in the use of a trouser press in the nine days?
Sounds like something that may not be used on Shabbos during the nine days.

comment What bracha do we say on mashed potatoes?
Halachos of Brachos (pg 406) quotes Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, Rav Sheinburg, and Rav Elyashiv who agree that mashed potatoes are HaAdama. Halacha Brurah 202:25 and Yalkut Yosef 202:22 rule that mashed potatoes are HaAdama. See also Sh"t Yabia Omer 7:29

comment Can someone who is not wearing tefillin on a weekday receive an aliyah?
To the best of my knowledge there is no Halacha or Minhag that supports this policy. Perhaps this was instituted in your Shul to avoid giving an Aliya to individuals that are not Shomer Shabbos or for some other reason.
