First trip to the synagogue! Tips and advice please! I would very much like to attend an Orthodox synagogue but it seems almost unwelcoming or off limits for non-Jews. Most of what I have learned about Judaism has been from Orthodox sources, and I think it is important for me to experience it first hand before I begin my conversion with the beth din, but it seems unattainable in a way right now. My experience with the previous Rabbi has made me a bit afraid and weary to contact another shul for a visit. In the meantime, I will continue attending Shabbat services at the progressive synagogue. |

First trip to the synagogue! Tips and advice please! Unfortunately, I have not been able to visit an Orthodox synagogue. At the time I posted this question, I was in communcation with an the Rabbi of an Orthodox shul regarding my visit. He was too busy over the High Holy days, I waited, I filled in the necessary forms and gave them all the information they required but he did not get back to me - in fact he has ignored me and I do not know why! Perhaps he thinks I'm a 'Messianic' which I am not, or he is trying to discourage me because I want to convert, or he just doesn't like me. I've since been attending a Progressive synagogue regularly. |
