comment Did Kozbi deserve to die?
You aasked "why was killing Kozbi (the Midianite woman) justified?" - I answered that this is what caused the plague to stop. Isn't that enough of a justification? (or have I misunderstood your question)

@ShmuelBrin - I agree with Yishai. This is not a duplicate. I think you should answer this question.

comment What's wrong with “we want moshiach now”?
Yes I read it. I still think that the example I gave is a good one to parallel this question. Both of them show 'an expression of yearning' - The repetition of "We want Moshiach now!" also illustrates this.

Not disagreements. The Rebbe would promote something and then those people would screem out 'Hayitachen?'

Yes!... Sort of like the yearning of: "We want Moshiach now!"

@DoubleAA - well, I can tell you that there were people out there that opposed just about everything that the Rebbe said. True, it is unfortunate to bring this up, but I still really think that this is one of those many cases.

@DoubleAA - I totally disagree with with your above comment. They didn't merely request information. They were saying to Moshe (loosely) even though Hashem says that we shouldn't participate - none-the-less we still want to participate.

@DoubleAA 'why should we be excluded' - is more a demand than a prayer, and yet - as it seems - that's exactly what Hashem wanted to hear from them

I don't think there has to be Torah-based answer to this question. IMHO a more likely answer would be politics.
