@msh210 blame is a big part of this question. trying to see if the christian claim has no basis whatsoever. even if someone were to perform miracles, etc. and show preliminary signs of being the messiah

comment About what were rabbis ahead of the times?
@DoubleAA whatever the midrash is referring to, and often the midrash is not 100% literal as you yourself point out in numerous occasions whenver it suits your needs, we see clearly the western wall of the temple mount is still standing despite jerusalem being destroyed some nine times and 2000 years gone by. like it or not that is significant and is most likely what the midrash is referring to.

@DoubleAA that is not referring to the temple wall. see matnas kehuna commentary there. and no a wall with 5-8 ton boulders is not going to fall so easily. the western is special because as it says there the shechina is in the west.

it's the western wall of the temple mount. obviously that is what the midrash raba Songs 1:9 is referring to since the temple was already destroyed when the midrash was put to writing

@DoubleAA i know you're not going to like this, but the midrash is right. the western wall still standing today is from temple times. at least the lower part of it. jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/Western_Wall.html see also here aish.com/h/9av/j/48961906.html
