comment Is one a heretic if he does not believe in Kabbalah?
@DoubleAA i was told by Rabbi Reuven Lauffer who has been paskening for people in ask the rabbi at ohr somayach for over 15 years regarding a difficult shayla i had: "I think that the question should be asked to an Adam Gadol. Rav Leff is a possibility or Rav Usher Weiss - both are Poskim of the highest caliber"

Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin quotes extensively from the zohar in the nefesh hachaim. the vilna gaon wrote extensive commentaries on the zohar as did the arizal and the ramchal. come on. how do you explain that?

comment How can I know a rav has daas Torah
@DoubleAA from here: "in simple (torah educated) people it is mixed with all types of influences and ideas from the street, or the like. And according to how great the mixture is, so too will be the diminishing of the percentage of "daas torah" . Therefore a man who is fit to be a reliable advisor is obligated to prepare in his heart "daas torah", 100% clean, with no trace of mixture of other daas whatsoever."

comment Answering Atheist about Torah miracles
@DoubleAA when he says "no matter how tiny a region of space, and no matter how tiny a region of time", he is merely emphasizing the point. that even for small scale and all the more so large scale which is even more complex since it is the sum of the small scale plus their interactions. to predict EXACTLY what will happen requires infinite computations. all of our engineering in the real world is based on approximate models ignoring other factors which complicate the mathematics. in any event this is just a side point. do you disagree with the main part of the answer?

ok. but the torah is inherently holy and should help one even if he does not have proper intentions as the ramchal says in derech Hashem in the section on torah.

i hear. i thought maybe it was due to the dangers of technology such as nuclear weapons.

@IsaacMoses have heard this from Rav Avigdor Miller tapes. also seems that way from the depth of torah of the earlier sages. Certainly does not seem any worse. so why was technology withheld? sam, where in the book?
