Can you bowl on shabbos? maybe i'm having trouble understanding the concept properly but I understood pesik reisha as a direct event. I cut off the head and it dies. Here by rolling a ball nothing happens immediately (in fact there is a distinct possibility that i miss the pins entirely!). wouldn't that be an indirect cause and hence only a grama? that coupled with the nature of electricity (possibly boneh?) would put the issur in doubt, no? |

Why is there so much stuff? @ArielK I don't think you're grasping the point, it is impossible to say why God did anything at all. However we can assign reasons for what has occurred to make them more understandable. The reason being assigned here is that God made certain rules of nature (for whatever reason) and abides by them, let's them play out etc. |

Why were some of the works of Rabbi Steinsaltz banned? I'm not familiar with the halacha regarding snideness as an appropriate response to a discussion of banned works. I would assume it is meritorious to try to understand why something was banned so that I can make an educated decision about it. I understand why the internet was banned and chose to ignore that ban, I may very well chose to do the same with Rav Steinsaltz's works, but I can't do so without understanding the nature of the ban in the first place. |
