comment When the Cohen is asked to leave the shul, doesn't that force him to miss the mitzvah of hearing part of Kri'at Hatorah?
is that mitzvah on the individual or on the tzibbur?

@DanF I used to love PDQ Bach. Is he still performing?

comment Mom and Dad begin Shabbat at different times. Whom should the son follow?
@DanF My inference is that each parent wants the son to do something different. I understand this question is asking from the son's POV, but it sounds like the problem is having two different "managers" so to speak with different expectations... The managers in this case are on the same team and should likely discuss things.

Sounds like this is a shalom bayit conversation. I don't understand where halacha comes into play. This is something the married couple needs to work out internally.

comment Is it possible for a man to convert to Judaism without circumcision?
I think that there are (a very few but) some Reform rabbis who do not require circumcision. There may be Renewal rabbis in that category, and perhaps Reconstructionist, but I think the vast VAST majority are not.

comment Must a Reform convert raise prior children Jewish?
Can you make this a more general question? E.g., trim down the first paragraph significantly. Also, ditto what @msh210 said - talk to the rabbi there, since s/he might have different (and certainly more relevant) expectations than generic Internet people have.

comment Bishul Akum: State Dinners
I thought that plain lentils (chickpeas?) were specifically allowed. I've heard people cite that regarding Ester.

comment Bishul Akum: State Dinners
So then lentils from scratch are considered fit for a "King's Table"? That seems ludicrous. Surely these rules were written long before mass produced and/or preserved foods...

comment Google says it is the Jewish Year 5774. The wiki says Judaism is 3000 years old. How is this discrepancy reconciled?
I don't understand your numbers or your answer. Care to clarify?

comment Marriage and Menstruation
@Bobo If you ask something more than a yes/no question, you will likely get an answer that more directly answers your concerns. Since we're not sure what you want to know, you will likely get answers that leave something useful out.

comment Marriage and Menstruation
The short answer is that yes, many observant Jews do this. Is that sufficient to answer your question?

Why does the legislation against carrying imply that people didn't carry? I'd expect it to imply the opposite!

Jewish month names are based on the names of Babylonian gods. Why is that better than Roman gods?
