comment Has a gadol be'Torah ever drastically changed his type of avodas Hashem?
Rabbi Mordechai Kaplan went from founding Young Israel to a Conservative Jew to founding the Reconstructionist movement.

comment Public school vs Yeshiva. Which to choose
All of the above, and also... There are many Jewish schools aside from those that call themselves "yeshivas". Community schools are an option many choose, and many of them have students from diverse families. That being said, there are many terrific public schools in NYC.

Here's a decent article I don't have the attention span for right now: kashrut.com/articles/turk_part5

comment Kashrus status of turkeys
Hence the debate. But I might be wrong - this is only heresay. All I do know for sure is that turkeys are native to the New World.

From what i understand, turkeys only existed in the New World, so there was no mesorah. But some Jews in the Americas wrote back to their rabbis in Europe and said, "There are these birds that are a lot like chicken. Can we eat them?" And with no further information, the rabbis said, "Sounds fine!" And thus we got a mesorah.... but a new mesorah.

@msh210 I'm interested in a translation of both parts, actually. Two translations makes sense.

comment Using a Stamp from an RSVP Card
Why not? If someone gives you a bottle of wine to use for your Wednesday night dinner and you don't, aren't you allowed to use that bottle on Shabbas?

comment An Ashenazi kohain lives outside Israel. When it is not Yom Tov, can he bless the people in a Sefardi shul?
Can you reword this so it's less localized - more general knowledge?

comment Please explain the idea of the Chair of Elijah in synagogue
The closest I can think of is Elijah's chair. I have seen some synagogues that keep a special chair on the bimah (the stage) for Elijah the Prophet, but it's really only "used" at a bris (circumcision).
