comment Is it asur to listen to a parrot which is a perfect mimic of a woman singing?
FYI, many hold that non-erotic songs are fine regardless.

comment Why do Ashkenazim say a b'racha for each of the four cups?
"On all other nights, when we drink wine, we refill our glasses and drink without making separate brachahs.... Why tonight do we make 4 brachahs?" :-)

comment Matzah eruvin on erev Pesach
@Yehoshua certainly by all people. Any time of day? no, but more than just that hour for a meal that doesn't exist. If someone posts the answer that matzah is allowed in the morning, I could accept it.

comment Earliest documentation of kissing
Agriculture was also an ancient Jewish practice, but it was certainly not invented by Jews.

That makes more sense.

So... סין meaning China AFAIU comes from the Latin (whence Sino-), which came from the Sanskrit. This is a reference to the Qin dynasty. The Qin dynasty didn't exist until 200BC, long after Sinai, so it is doubtful that the Torah, written in the language of those who received it, would have mentioned a place completely unknown to its recipients. (Note: China in Chinese is written 中国 and is currently pronounced in Mandarin, "zhong guo").

comment Is Guinness Beer no longer kosher?
Isinglass isn't added for flavor, rather to process things. By the way, many other English and Irish beers use the same process. When I was vegetarian, I abstained from all Isle beers except Sam Smith.

If you ran the year Nisan-Adar, there are many fewer permutations.

You're going to get very different answers based on hashkafa here.

comment Maple syrup bracha
But one doesn't normally eat syrup plain. Eating it that way would likely be eating in a different way, and therefore qualify as shehakol, no?

comment Origin of the term Yoshke?
According to my reference on Ashkenazic names, Yoshke comes from Yosef, not Yehoshua, but it's often wrong.

comment How to salt a chicken at home?
Why not my sink? It touches fleisch and milchig and is therefore treif.

comment What can I feed a vegetarian at my Pesach seder?
@MonicaCellio sure! I just added two more since you wrote this. Frittatas can be really elegant, are completely chametzless, and are pretty easy.
