comment Aleinu - are we happy that other nations worship idols?
You're answering your own question here? You're setting up a weird strawman above.

comment Examples of having to choose between two “lavs”?
Don't sit idly by the blood of your brother - do you save your teacher or father if you could only save one? Also - the "big 3" vs. any other lavs.

comment Translation of 'Takana'
@user6591 I don't think he's being snide - he's asking a question because in your question it's entirely unclear what definitions you are unsatisfied with or why.

comment Did the people who followed the triennial cycle celebrate “Simchat Torah” in the same manner as those who followed the annual cycle?
Since the traditional triennial cycle always began a new book on one of the four New Years (see jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/14508-triennial-cycle), there was an ambient celebration of sorts at the start of bereshit.

comment Intent to include foods in bracha that exist only as ingredients
It'd be awfully weird if you had to make a new bracha on each food as it was prepared. At a restaurant, that's nearly impossible!

comment Would whole brain emulation be compatible with Judaism?
@ike I disagree with your definition of science and your presumption of the limited capacity of human thought. If you'd like to discuss this in Mi Yodeya Chat, let me know and I'll be there, but it's pretty off-topic for a comment thread.

comment The situation of a lost Jew
It can be assumed, but it can also be made explicit. When you talk about no longer being related to natural relatives, it's a touchy subject and in my opinion, the more explicit you can be, the gentler it comes off to someone who is new to that way of thinking.

comment No tachanun - hooray?
A famous rabbi (I forget who) once said, "If non-Jews knew the joy that Jews have when it is announced there is no tachanun that day, they would all convert immediately."

comment When the Cohen is asked to leave the shul, doesn't that force him to miss the mitzvah of hearing part of Kri'at Hatorah?
is that mitzvah on the individual or on the tzibbur?

@DanF I used to love PDQ Bach. Is he still performing?

comment Mom and Dad begin Shabbat at different times. Whom should the son follow?
@DanF My inference is that each parent wants the son to do something different. I understand this question is asking from the son's POV, but it sounds like the problem is having two different "managers" so to speak with different expectations... The managers in this case are on the same team and should likely discuss things.

comment Mom and Dad begin Shabbat at different times. Whom should the son follow?
Sounds like this is a shalom bayit conversation. I don't understand where halacha comes into play. This is something the married couple needs to work out internally.
