Shofar Certification Since the horns are cut, smoothed and polished before they hit the shelves, they may look similar to, say, cattle horns which come in all shapes and sizes. At least to a city boy. |

Shofar Certification You seem to be talking of someone who knows the halachos. The only thing I could think of that's not noticeable is to know what animal it came from. Good question. You never know what manufacturers might pass off. |

Latest shabbat not longest day…? I think you mean that the sun's "movements" are more accurate than that of a watch, but they would be less precise since they span a broader range. Unless you're talking about it's movement relative to the stars (which I'm not sure about). I was referring to its apparent movement from Earth-view. |

verb + its infinitive There are various such drashos throught shas, especially in Bava Metzia (31b). The implication is that the double language expands the halacha to include something else. The other shittah holds that a double verb is a normal manner of speech and does not necessarily imply extending the halacha (though see Tos.) There are non-halachic drashos, too (Darosh Darash by Seir haChatas) msh's question, however would apply to translating a pasuk simply: How do we know it means "surely", as opposed to being a normal narrative? |

Things we do not do because of Danger Dave, your point is well taken. |

Things we do not do because of Danger YS- you are misinterpreting my words. I am not saying that these statements do not apply (although I do admit that there is support to those who say such- another debate). I am saying that Chazal only instituted these because of a chashash of a physical danger. That physical danger may come about through a "ruach ra'ah", however we might define that. There may be other Kabbalistic side-reasons, but Chazal would not have instituted the halacha for those alone. As for my answer below, I am merely expanding the details of the mitzva. |

“Jumping” at the end of Shemoneh Esrei The Rema's language doesn't talk about the triple jump. Most interpret this as "some movement" like raising the feet. The Eliya Rabbah says that this language (used by the Levush) is a smach for those that jump. Where is the Nefesh haChayim? |
