comment If someone requests charity during the blessings of Shema, may I give it?
@WAF: Good points. But you imply that giving money to such a person encourages them to do something forbidden. Bochur613 didn't use the term "forbidden": he used the softer term "shouldn't". I have no clue what "shouldn't" means here. Could it perhaps mean that most poor people may not solicit funds during the blessings of the Shema, but that desperately-poor people are excepted?

Shalom, thank you for your answer. I have now edited the question and adapted some material from your answer into my question.

Moving context from a comment of mine, which I plan to delete, into the question. I don't want to seem like a creep; this context explains why I asked the question.

@Daniel: The answer already mentions LaBriute meals; it would be better if you'd edit your comment into the answer. :)

I reconfigured my Internet filter and watched the video. The first part of the video discusses charity and the Shema. Starting at 1:20, it discusses the blessings before and after the Shema. I understand very little Yiddish. Dear all: What does the second part of the video say?

Editing title. 1. I believe that age restrictions start at different ages for men touching girls than women touching boys. And anyway, "other-gender" is just awkward. So using the term "female" instead. 2. Improving readability by using the active voice instead of the passive voice.

comment If someone has BO and can't smell themselves, may they say blessings?
R' Yaakov Sasson seems to agree one's own perceptions don't matter. He writes: "One may not pray or speak words of Torah in a place where there is an offensive odor such as in the presence of a sewer leak, in a place where there are fields fertilized with animal manure, or in the presence of a child with a dirty diaper. "Even if the specific individual wanting to pray does not smell the offensive odor, so long as other people do, he may not pray there." (Emphasis mine.)

I want to back up the assertion that it's "the Rambam and others" who hold that "negiah" means "affectionate touching". To do so, I'm adding a link to a post (elsewhere) by Shalom.

Dear Shalom: Thank you very much for clarifying the "affectionate touching" vs. "any touching" matter. I don't think I quite understood it until you clarified things. I have removed the text you quoted from my question; edited some of your clarifications into the question; and merged my hugging question into this one. Dear Shalom and dear all: Please feel free to freely and unreservedly edit the question and/or any answer, in order to make any changes you like.
