I have been working with SQL Server for more than ten years. I am very much self-taught, using books, manuals and sites like stackoverflow to help me improve my skills. My job titles have been everything from Business Analyst to Report Developer and now, Quality Data Analyst. In a nutshell, I write stored procedures to create reports. I have some experience with Oracle, but I prefer SQL Server. For reporting tools, I have mainly worked with Crystal Reports, but I have some experience in Cognos and SSRS. If I were to have my way, I'd never work with Crystal again and would instead focus on SSRS. However; I'm not the one who gets to choose the reporting package. I'm thrilled about my new position which is writing reports for the Quality Department of a Clinic. As someone new to the health care field this is offering me a chance to grow my business knowledge, as well as feel as if my reports make a difference in people's lives and don't just help someone see how much money they made this week.

In my spare time, I've become the crazy cat lady in my neighborhood - I now own 4 - and I like to hangout with my grandsons (no, I'm not old enough, thank you for noticing - they're steps). I, also, have an American Eskimo Dog - Oliver - who is a bit of a challenge. In order to train your dog, you really need to be smarter than he is and Ollie is giving me and my family quite the run for our money.

I own a PS3 and love to play wargames, such as Battlefield Bad Company. I've just purchased Battlefield 3, but have not had much time to play it. My online handle is BentleyGadget, if you ever want to play with someone who loves the game, but really sucks at it! 8-)

comment If Christianity is avodah zarah and Islam is not, why has the Christian world triumphed over the non-Christian, and why do Jews prefer to live among Christians and not Muslims?
Speaking as a Christian, have you looked at us? Perhaps people of the Christian faith have more power around the world, but I don't think that means G-d has blessed us. We spend an enormous amount of time proclaiming Christianity while murdering our fellow man in wars and other ventures. We spend a lot of time fighting amongst ourselves. I do not consider Christians as blessed. We all know that people of the Jewish faith are His favorite - no matter how little power on earth they may have.

comment Is Christianity Avodah Zara?
I am a non-practicing Catholic and in general, Catholics believe in the Trinity. I have attended services in Methodist, Lutheran and Disciples of Christ and I, personally, haven't heard the Trinity mentioned. I cannot speak for my Christian brethen, but - personally - I don't believe it in. There is one G-d and that's it. I believe that Jesus is His son and the Holy Spirit works for Him, but neither of them are G-d. Now, I usually pray only to G-d, but in times I've trouble, I've been known to pray to Jesus, the Virgin Mary and a dead uncle. But, I don't worship them, like I worship G-d.

comment Is Christianity Avodah Zara?
So, based on what you have written (and being Christian, not Jewish) if I am reading your answer correctly, by virtue of my Christianity, I am automatically considered an idolator? And, a Jewish person is prohibited to offer prayers on my behalf? What about the reverse - can an idolator/Christian pray for a Jewish person? (I mean no disrespect, I'm just trying to make sure I understand what you wrote.)

comment If masturbation is so bad, why is it not in list of 613 Mitzvos?
@Shemmy, thank you for your comment. Perhaps, this isn't the place for the conversation, but I wonder the same thing. I can see that masturbation could be interperted as a sin, if we are to be fruitful and multiply; however, I've never understood how Onan's act came to mean that masturbation is a sin. Onan's refusing to fulfill his Leverite obligation is where Christian ministers point to explain that masturbation is a sin. This has always confused me.

Forgive my boldness, since I'm not Jewish, but isn't Onan's true sin the fact that he refused to give his seed to his brother? By not completing the act with his brother's widow, he was not allowing his late brother to have an heir (which would've cut into his own share of his inheritance) and isn't that the sin and not necessarily coitus interruptus or masturbation?

comment Are children adopted by Jews Jewish?
I'm confused. I understand why I would have to convert (not raised Jewish and my line ended with my grandfather, but why would someone who was raised Jewish, obviously went through all the formalities while growing up (Bar Mitzvah) have to convert? Isn't being raised Jewish enough?

comment How do you get non-Jews to treat you with some kind of tznius?
Thank you, @Isaac Moses. I knew there were touching limits in other religions, but not in the Jewish one. This was interesting to learn and explains the look I received from my Jewish boss when I tried to get him out on the dance floor at our holiday party. Now, I am aware to not be so touchy feeley.

comment Can a Christian “Grace” invalidate food?
I've heard of thanking Jesus Christ, but not consecrating the food to Him, although, it is possible some far-right Christian religions might do this.

comment Would a non-Jew wearing the Star of David together with a cross be offensive?
That makes sense. And, I believe you're right. I definitely believe that I've missed out on something by not knowing the Jewish side of my family. And, since I began my search, I believe I have gained so much with my association with my Jewish cousins.

I'm curious and I'm not sure if this belongs here, but why are you bothered if someone doesn't know they're Jewish and they wear a cross?

I can say that I do not associate nor identify with the Jews for Jesus. And, thanks for the pictures. The first one is what I had in mind, but I couldn't find one. This is going to sound strange, but the whole Jewish side of my family was downplayed when I was growing up and I believe that because of my great-grandmother and her parents, I'm the person I am today (based on things I've learned about them and their personalities). I want to honor them in some way and that's why I like the combination of cross and Star of David.
