Why was the blood from the Korbon placed inside(Rashi:Yud Beis,Yud Gimmel) and not outside ?

Why do we link Shabbat with the Exodus from Egypt?
My four-year-old son asked me this right after Kiddush on Friday night (more or less verbatim):
