Which of the sons of Yaakov died first? If it was Yosef, then from his death (at 110 after he'd been born when Yitzchak was 151, so 261 years into the 400-year exile) until the second year of travel through the desert was 140 years. That's the period described in the book of Sh'mos: from the death of Yosef, his brothers, and "that entire generation" until the mishkan was erected. (If another son of Yaakov died a year or more before Yosef, then the timespan of Sh'mos is the correct answer to some other question in this series rather than this one.)
