Here is a little into about me. (It may help you answer my questions)

I'm Russian Jew. I do believe but in my own way. ( but most of the people would probably call me non religious ) My son in 4th grade elementary public school. Next year he will be going to mid school and that's what I afraid of. ( living in NYC and all ) As an option I'm considering sending him to yeshiva. But there are a few considerations.

  1. Financially ( it seems to be more complicated as it seems you need to pay for it ? )
  2. Level of Education ( will he be able to compete when he gets out into real life? )
  3. First shock for kid and then possible future conflict as family not as religious

Edwin, I respectfully agree and disagree with @DoubleAA about the personal nature of this question. Unfortunately, I am forced to agree with his decision to close it, ultimately, because as important of a question as this is, even though it is an issue that impacts many people, it is something that will not be constructive on a Q&A site like this one. I would offer two pieces of advice, however. One is to check out the options and make the best decision for your child. There are many advantages to sending a child to a Jewish school, but it needs to be the right fit. – Seth J Nov 16 '12 at 18:43

With that having been said, there are many Jews in NYC's public schools, and there are many social clubs and youth groups for Jewish children and teenagers. I wish you and your son success in this decision, and I hope you come back to this site with any questions that may arise regarding living a more active Jewish lifestyle. – Seth J Nov 16 '12 at 18:45
All of the above, and also... There are many Jewish schools aside from those that call themselves "yeshivas". Community schools are an option many choose, and many of them have students from diverse families. That being said, there are many terrific public schools in NYC. – Charles Koppelman Nov 16 '12 at 19:19
